About Milwaukee County Lighthouses Lighthouse
The octagonal cast iron tower, built in 1888, stands 23 meters tall and is painted white with a black lantern. This structure was raised onto a steel foundation in 1913. First lit in 1855, the station served Port Milwaukee on Lake Michigan. The light became inactive in 1994, but a community group led a restoration that began in 2004 and concluded in November 2007. The lighthouse reopened to visitors after its completion, and its original 4th order Fresnel lens was returned in 2009.
