About Middle Head Lighthouse
Also known as: Middle Head (St. Lawrence Point)
A gray metallic, cylindrical steel tower stands 9.5 meters tall, with its light positioned 27 meters above sea level. This structure, featuring a lantern and gallery, was first lit in 1915. Its operational light produces a white flash every 15 seconds, visible for 14.7 nautical miles. The station was initially established as a fog signal in 1912, with the light added several years later. The site is open to visitors, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for safe passage into and out of Great and Little St. Lawrence Harbours, marking the promontory that separates these two inlets.
