Marøy Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Marøy Lighthouse
Marøy Lighthouse was constructed in 1915 as a square skeletal tower clad in white siding, topped with a lantern and gallery. Standing 7 meters tall, its light reached a focal height of 28 meters above sea level and had a geographic range of 5 nautical miles. This structure was situated on a small island off Morsund, marking the western point of Harøy. The lighthouse served the waters of Møre og Romsdal county near the city of Ålesund. Its operational life ceased in 2023, and the tower has since been removed from its original position.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guided local mariners navigating the island-dotted coastal waters around Morsund and the western approaches to Harøy, helping them avoid hazards.
