About Maruyama Saki Lighthouse
This concrete cylindrical tower, standing 10 meters tall, guides vessels at the northern entrance to the Kabura Strait. Mounted on a round concrete pier, the structure's base is on a reef approximately 0.9 kilometers from Toba. Its light emits four green flashes every 17 seconds, visible for 11.3 nautical miles. The lighthouse is painted green and its site is open to visitors, though the tower itself is closed. This aid to navigation is located off the eastern tip of Sakate Shima, an island within Toba harbor.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marks the northern approach to the Kabura Strait, a passage west of Suga Shima, warning mariners of a reef hazard.
