About Malacca Lighthouse
Also known as: Malacca (St. Paul's Church)
Constructed in 1849, the Malacca Lighthouse is a square masonry tower standing 13 meters tall. It features a lantern and gallery atop an arched base. The tower is painted white and is situated on St. Paul's Hill, overlooking Melaka's harbor, just 0.9 kilometers from the nearest port. The lighthouse's history is linked to the maritime importance of the area, serving to guide vessels into the busy harbor and through the Strait of Malacca. Restoration efforts were completed by October 2022.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the entrance to Melaka's harbor, a critical port along the Strait of Malacca. Its location on St. Paul's Hill, adjacent to the historic St. Paul's Church ruins, makes it a significant cultural and tourism draw.
