Location & Light Range
About Maedomari Kō Lighthouse
A white, cylindrical concrete tower, 12 meters high, was built in 1994 at the end of the south breakwater for Maedomari ferry port. The light is 17 meters above sea level and emits a single green flash every three seconds. This structure guides vessels entering the port on the east coast of Iheya Shima in Okinawa Prefecture. The site is open to visitors, but the tower itself is closed. The nearest port is Maedomari/Iheya, just 0.1 kilometers away.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for the daily ferry operations connecting Iheya Shima to the mainland, ensuring safe navigation into Maedomari port.
