L'Orignal Range Front Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About L'Orignal Range Front Lighthouse
Constructed in 1915, this square pyramidal wood tower stands 9 meters tall and is painted white with red trim. It is situated on the south river bank, on the promontory of Pointe Laviolette, also known as Furnis Point, west of the village of L'Orignal. The lighthouse served as the front range light for the L'Orignal range. Its operational period concluded in the early 1990s, and it is no longer active. The structure is now part of a private campground and is not open to the public.
Why it matters: As a range front light, L'Orignal guided vessels along specific channels. Its continued presence marks the region's maritime history and the evolution of riverine transport.
