About Long Point Cut Lighthouse
Also known as: Long Point Cut (Old Cut, Long Point West End, Port Rowan)
Built in 1879, the Long Point Cut Lighthouse is a square pyramidal wood tower standing 15 meters tall. It was attached to a one-story wood keeper's quarters. The lighthouse, painted white with red trim, marked a former channel at the base of the Long Point Peninsula. Its operational life concluded in 1916 when the channel silted shut. The structure was restored between 1999 and 2000 by its new owners, Peter and Lynn Westway, who added a replica lantern.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is significant for marking a now-vanished channel, illustrating the dynamic geological processes that reshape coastal navigation.
