Lincoln Rock Lighthouse

Fl White 6s🇺🇸Wrangell, USOperational

Also known as: Lincoln Rock (Lincoln Rock West)

The Lincoln Rock lighthouse operates on a 9-meter square pyramidal steel skeletal tower, standing on a substantial concrete base. First lit in 1903, the initial lighthouse was damaged by a storm and abandoned in 1909. A manned fog signal station was established on Lincoln Island in 1911, the same year a skeletal light tower was placed on the rock. The fog signal station was later deactivated and demolished in 1968. The light emits a white flash every 6 seconds, visible for 12.7 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.

Why it matters: This navigational aid guides vessels through the western end of Clarence Strait, a significant passage in Southeast Alaska.
