About Lille Torungen Lighthouse
Built in 1844, the Lille Torungen lighthouse stands on an island bearing the same name, situated about 1.5 kilometers north of Store Torungen Fyr. This cylindrical brick tower, painted white, reaches a height of 29 meters and originally featured a red lantern. Although it ceased operations in 1914, the lighthouse was saved from demolition by local residents. Restoration efforts have since been undertaken by the group Torungens Venner. The island is accessible to the public, but the tower remains closed.
Why it matters: Lille Torungen is recognized as Norway's tallest surviving brick lighthouse. Its preservation highlights its cultural value and its role as a unique venue for events.
