About Leverburgh Lighthouse
Also known as: Leverburgh (Laimhrig Mhor, Hebrides Beacon)
An octagonal concrete tower stands 9 meters tall on the west side of the harbor entrance in Leverburgh, located on the southern end of the Isle of Harris. Painted white, the structure includes a lantern. This lighthouse was charted as an unlighted rear beacon after being replaced by a mast light on the nearby ferry pier. The tower's operational status has ceased, but it remains a noted feature on nautical charts. Leverburgh, a small port on Harris Sound, is 0.1 kilometers away from this site.
Why it matters: The Leverburgh lighthouse continues to be charted as an unlighted rear beacon for the Leverburgh Range, providing context for local navigation. Its historical function guided ferry traffic and other vessels entering the harbor on Harris Sound.
