About Aberystwyth South Breakwater Lighthouse
A cylindrical masonry tower, 11 meters high, marks the south breakwater at Aberystwyth. Established in 1864, the structure features horizontal bands of green and white and is topped with a lantern and gallery. Its light emits two white or green flashes every 10 seconds, visible for 11 nautical miles. The tower stands 12 meters above focal height. The station was first lit in 1864. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the south breakwater entrance to Aberystwyth harbor, a port on Cardigan Bay. The breakwater offers public access to the structure.
