About Lerøy Lighthouse
Also known as: Lerøy (Lerøyna)
Lerøy lighthouse stands on a small skerry in Lerøy sound, off the southwestern tip of Lerøy island. The current structure is a 6-meter concrete tower, painted black, supporting a white lantern with a red roof. It stands on a platform raised by four piles, with a focal height of 6.5 meters. The light emits two white or red flashes every 8 seconds. Originally established in 1855, the foundations of the first lighthouse are still present. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for vessels navigating the Lerøy sound, providing directional guidance with its white or red light. Its unique construction on piles makes it a distinctive landmark.
