Leamington Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Leamington Lighthouse
Built in 1880, the Leamington lighthouse is a 9-meter-tall square pyramidal wood tower. It features a white structure with a red lantern and gallery. The lighthouse is situated on the Leamington waterfront, west of Erie Street South and north of the Pelee Island ferry terminal. Although it began its service in 1880, the light was extinguished and the structure became inactive in 1923. Today, it is managed by an association of summer cottage owners. The tower has been repurposed to provide restrooms for the association's members, serving a private community function rather than maritime navigation.
Why it matters: The Leamington lighthouse is notable for its unusual adaptation from a navigational aid to a community facility, representing a creative approach to preserving local heritage.
