About Île aux Oeufs Lighthouse
Also known as: Île aux Oeufs (Egg Island)
Built in 1955, the Île aux Oeufs lighthouse is an 11-meter octagonal concrete tower, painted white with a red lantern. It stands on an island south of Rivière-Pentecôte, Canada. For nearly 50 years, its white light provided 15 nautical miles of geographic range. The keeper's house, present when the station was established in 1871, was demolished in the 1970s. The lighthouse was deactivated in October 2003 and is now closed to the public, though the site remains open.
Why it matters: The Île aux Oeufs lighthouse is significant for marking its namesake island south of Rivière-Pentecôte, and its remote location offers insight into isolated maritime life.
