About L'Adour Feu Antérieur Lighthouse
Also known as: #L'Adour Feu Antérieur
L'Adour Feu Antérieur is a cylindrical steel tower standing 4 meters high, located on the south bank of the Adour estuary in Anglet, France. It features a green light with a single green flash, visible for 8.9 nautical miles. The tower, originally mounted on rails atop steel pilings with a conical roof, allowed for lateral adjustments to maintain a precise range line. This unique design was intended to guide vessels through the entrance to the Adour estuary and Boucau harbor. The structure was operational until around 2022, when it was replaced by a post light.
Why it matters: The light's original design, which allowed for lateral movement, represented a sophisticated engineering solution to maintain accurate navigational guidance for ships entering the Adour estuary and Boucau harbor.
