La Guaira Lighthouse

The La Guaira light is situated on a steep mountain ridge south of the port city of Maiquetía. Its light is housed on a round, concrete water tank, which is painted with red and white horizontal bands. This adaptation serves as the platform for the light, which emits a white flash every 15.5 seconds. The focal height reaches 425 meters above sea level, providing a geographic range of 47.4 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, though the water tank structure itself is closed.

Why it matters: This light is important for maritime traffic approaching La Guaira, one of Venezuela's most significant ports. Its unique placement atop a water tank makes it an unusual example of coastal navigation infrastructure.
