Kylmäpihlaja Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Kylmäpihlaja Lighthouse
Built in 1953, the Kylmäpihlaja Lighthouse is a 32-meter cylindrical brick tower painted white and black. Its square base originally contained keeper's quarters and is attached to a large, two-story coast guard building. The lighthouse emits a single white flash every 45 seconds, visible for 16.4 nautical miles. In 2002, this structure was leased and subsequently converted into a hotel and restaurant. The island location, about 10 km west of Rauma, makes it accessible by ferry.
Why it matters: Beyond its role in guiding vessels through the archipelago west of Rauma, the lighthouse's conversion into a hotel and restaurant has established it as a notable tourism destination.
