This concrete lighthouse, built in 1961, stands 11 meters tall on the wild, mountainous northeastern tip of Okinawa. Its white cylindrical tower is centered on a one-story concrete equipment building. The light emits a single white flash every 6 seconds, visible for 21.5 nautical miles. The structure underwent restoration in 2019. It is situated on the west side of the island's northernmost point, approximately 14.1 kilometers from the nearest port of Shioya, Okinawa.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns mariners rounding Okinawa's northernmost point, an area characterized by its abrupt land meeting the sea.
