About Knapp Point Lighthouse
Also known as: Knapp Point (Brown's Point)
Built in 1874, the Knapp Point Lighthouse is a square pyramidal wooden tower standing 6 meters tall. Painted white with a red lantern and gallery, it was first lit in the same year it was constructed. The lighthouse is situated on a point on the north side of Wolfe Island, east of Marysville. It provided a geographic range of 8.9 nautical miles. Its operational life concluded in 2000, and it has remained inactive since then.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's simple, square pyramidal wooden design reflects a functional approach to early lighthouse construction in the region. It once played a role in marking a specific navigational hazard or guiding passage along the northern shore of Wolfe Island.
