About Kingsville Range Rear Lighthouse
Also known as: Kingsville Range Rear (relocated)
Built in 1889, this square pyramidal wood tower stands 9 meters tall and was originally painted white with a gray lantern. After its active service guiding ships ended in 1936, the structure was sold and incorporated into a private cottage. It was later donated to the village and displayed at Lakeside Park from 1973 to 1991. Following a move to the Kingsville Historical Park, the tower underwent repairs in 1995 and a full restoration in 2003. In 2022, it was relocated to its present site on Park Street, near Lansdowne Avenue and the Pelee Island ferry terminal. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse serves as a tangible link to Kingsville's maritime history, having once guided vessels. Its history of repurposing, donation, and multiple relocations highlights its cultural significance and community preservation efforts.
