About Keskihiuvet Range Rear Lighthouse
The Keskihiuvet Range Rear light is a 14-meter tall, cylindrical concrete tower built in 1939 on Hoikkahiuvet island. The tower is painted white with a red vertical stripe facing the former range line. It was first lit in 1939 and became inactive in 1978, later transitioning to private ownership. The island is located about 5 kilometers off the mainland south of Haukipudas and is accessible only by boat. The structure is now surrounded by trees.
Why it matters: As a range rear light, Keskihiuvet provided precise alignment for mariners navigating specific channels. Its unique design served as a visual aid for ships following the designated range line.
