Kavringen Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Kavringen Lighthouse
Built in 1892, this octagonal wood lighthouse stands 13 meters high with a focal height of 12 meters. The tower, painted white with a single narrow red horizontal band, is topped by an unusual wood lantern and spire. Its light signal, occulting white, red, and green every 6 seconds, offers a 11 nautical mile range. The structure was refurbished in 2006.
Why it matters: Established after the 1890 wreck of the steamship Norway on the Kavringen reef, this lighthouse marks the reef and aids navigation into Oslo's inner harbor.
