Kaura Lighthouse

About Kaura Lighthouse
This lighthouse, built in 1931, stands on a small skerry in the Norwegian Sea, about 6 kilometers northwest of Roan. The cylindrical tower, constructed from stone and cast iron, reaches a height of 22 meters. It displays a white, red, and green light, with two flashes every ten seconds. The structure incorporates the keeper's quarters and is topped with a lantern and gallery. Kaura Lighthouse is the last cast iron lighthouse constructed in Norway.
Why it matters: Its architectural design, reminiscent of American sparkplug lighthouses, marks it as a distinctive example of maritime engineering. As the final cast iron lighthouse built in Norway, it represents a significant historical point in the nation's lighthouse construction tradition.
