Location & Light Range
About Karmøy South Coast Lighthouses Lighthouse
This operational lighthouse stands on a promontory on the southeastern point of Karmøy, east of the Skudeneshavn harbor. The structure consists of a 4-meter lantern and gallery, painted white with a red roof, atop a short stone base. Its focal height reaches 22 meters, with a geographic range of 13.6 nautical miles. The light emits three flashes of white, red, or green light in a 10-second cycle. An earlier lighthouse at this site was deactivated in 1924.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's directional light system precisely marks the southeastern promontory of Karmøy, guiding ferries safely into Skudeneshavn harbor. The surviving keeper's houses offer a historical dimension to Norway's coastal lightkeeping tradition.
