About Kame Iwa Lighthouse
This 15-meter-tall, red, cylindrical concrete tower is situated on a rocky reef about 400 meters from the northern edge of Naga Shima. Atop the structure, which includes a lantern and gallery, the light is positioned 14 meters above sea level. The light characteristic is a single red flash every 8 seconds, visible for 11.6 nautical miles. The grounds may be visited, but the tower is not open to the public. It is reachable by boat from Murotsu, Yamaguchi, 2.5 kilometers distant.
Why it matters: The lighthouse warns of a shallow reef extending from the northern point of Naga Shima, serving as a navigation aid for ships in the area.
