About Ōita Kō East Breakwater Lighthouse
This lighthouse stands at the extremity of the eastern breakwater for the newer harbor at Otozu, located on the west side of Ōita city. The structure is a round, strongly conical concrete tower, 10 meters high, painted white. It supports a lantern and gallery, with its light positioned 18 meters above sea level. The lighthouse emits a green flash every three seconds, visible for 12.7 nautical miles. It was built as part of the development of this modern maritime infrastructure to serve the prefectural capital's shipping needs.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's green flash clearly marks the eastern breakwater, which is essential for the safe navigation of vessels entering or leaving the Otozu harbor and serving Ōita.
