About Isola di Capraia Lighthouse
Also known as: Isola di Capraia (Caprara)
Established in 1868, this lighthouse is an octagonal cylindrical masonry tower standing 15 meters tall, attached to a two-story keeper's house. It is situated on the eastern tip of the uninhabited island of Capraia, north of San Nicola and separated by an 800-meter channel. The light was extinguished in 1980, and the lantern has since been removed. The structure is now unpainted and deteriorating, falling into ruin. Access to the isolated location is only possible by boat, and the site is closed to visitors.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marked the eastern tip of Isola di Capraia, guiding vessels through the channel separating it from San Nicola.
