Location & Light Range
About Isla Negritos Lighthouse
This steel skeletal tower stands 12 meters tall, painted with red and white horizontal bands. It is situated at the eastern end of Isla Negritos, marking a dangerous reef system extending from the west side of the Gulf of Nicoya. The light emits a single white flash every 20 seconds, visible for over 18 nautical miles. Built in 2011, it serves as a marker for vessels navigating east of Paquera. Despite its operational status, it was dropped from Admiralty and NGA lists in the same year it was established.
Why it matters: The lighthouse warns mariners of the extensive reef system surrounding the Islas Negritos, a critical navigational hazard in the western Gulf of Nicoya.
