About Indian Harbour Lighthouse
Also known as: Indian Harbour (Paddy's Head)
Constructed in 1901, the Indian Harbour Lighthouse is a 10-meter-tall square pyramidal wood tower painted white. It stands in St. Margaret's Bay, beyond the end of Paddy's Head Road. The lighthouse emits a white flash and has a focal height of 11 meters, providing a geographic range of 10.7 nautical miles. Restoration efforts were completed in 2018, including the installation of a new replica lantern. The site is open to the public, but the tower remains closed.
Why it matters: The community's involvement through the Friends of Paddy’s Head Lighthouse Society, formed in 2013, underscores the lighthouse's cultural significance and local connection. Its unique construction represents a common style for smaller Canadian coastal lights.
