About Honningsvåg Lighthouse
Also known as: #Honningsvåg
Honningsvåg Lighthouse was a square skeletal tower made of metal, standing 6 meters tall and clad with siding, topped by a lantern and gallery. Its focal height reached 11.5 meters, and it emitted an isophase red light every 6 seconds, visible for 10.9 nautical miles. Positioned on the north side of a protected cove entrance, it was located about 2.5 kilometers south of Buholmen. The original structure was eventually replaced and subsequently removed, marking a transition in navigational aids for the area.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was essential for guiding vessels into the protected cove at Honningsvåg, a safe harbor along Norway's coast. Its replacement and removal reflect the continuous evolution of maritime navigation systems to meet current shipping demands.
