Homborsund Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Homborsund Lighthouse
This concrete lighthouse, built in 1879, stands 20 meters tall on Store Gronningen island. Its cylindrical white tower is topped with a red lantern. The light emits four white flashes every 60 seconds, visible for 13.6 nautical miles. Originally a dwelling for two families, the structure is attached to a keeper's house. It was constructed in the same year and with a similar design as the Lyngør lighthouse. The station includes outbuildings, a boathouse, and a pier. Automation occurred in 1992, and the station was later de-populated.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is a protected cultural site, built in 1879, mirroring the design of Lyngør lighthouse and reflecting a period of standardized Norwegian lighthouse construction.
