About Himekawa Kō Lighthouse
Also known as: Himekawa Kō (?)
This cylindrical concrete tower, 13 meters in height, stands at the eastern end of a detached breakwater guarding the principal harbor of Itoigawa. Its focal plane is 17 meters above sea level. The structure features a flared top and is painted entirely red. A red light flashes once every three seconds, visible for 12.4 nautical miles. While the exact construction date is not specified, a height change was noted in March 2019, suggesting a potential replacement of the light structure. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse guides vessels into Itoigawa, the region's primary harbor, and provides a clear warning for navigation along the detached breakwater.
