About Hidrasund Lighthouse
Also known as: #Hidrasund
Built in 1894, this 4-meter wood structure functions as a lantern room and is painted white with a red roof. It is affixed to a small equipment closet and served to mark the north side of the Hidrasund entrance. For over a century, it emitted a white, red, and green light with a characteristic of Fl WRG 5s. In September 2011, a helicopter installed a new LED post light, replacing the original lantern. The old lantern is planned for relocation to the Lindesnes Light museum.
Why it matters: The Hidrasund light functions as a navigation aid for vessels entering the Hidrasund waterway. The original 1894 wooden lantern held particular architectural significance as one of the few remaining examples of its type in Norway.
