About Hestøyodden Lighthouse
Also known as: Hestøyodden (?)
First lit in 1895, Hestøyodden Lighthouse is situated near the northern tip of Nordøya, marking the narrow northern entrance to Brønnøysund harbor. The structure consists of a 5-meter octagonal lantern and gallery, painted white with a red lantern roof. This lantern assembly is mounted on four piles that rise from a square stone pier. The lighthouse emits an isophase red light with a 2-second cycle and has a geographic range of 8.9 nautical miles. While the original lighthouse may have been replaced, the site remains operational, guiding vessels with its light and a supplementary "sakte fart" (slow speed) sign.
Why it matters: This light is essential for safe navigation into Brønnøysund harbor, particularly for vessels entering through the narrow northern passage.
