About Hei Saki Lighthouse
Hei Saki lighthouse is situated at the end of a peninsula on the south side of the entrance to Miyako harbor. The structure consists of a 10-meter concrete post mounted on a two-story concrete equipment building. Its light emits a long white flash every six seconds. The focal height reaches 56 meters, providing a geographic range of 19.5 nautical miles. The lighthouse site is open to the public, although the tower is closed. An attached structure was replaced before 2009.
Why it matters: This lighthouse guides vessels around the promontory marking the southern entrance to Miyako harbor and highlights an unusual integration of a lighthouse with an equipment building.
