About Hayle Old Rear Lighthouse
Established in 1840, this square wooden tower stands on four wooden piles, reaching a focal height of 23 meters. Its white structure is distinguished by a red horizontal band. The light emits a continuous white beam, providing a geographic range of 13.8 nautical miles. Located on the west side of the entrance to the River Hayle, north of Lelant, it is adjacent to the West Cornwall Golf Club. Although the original range function has been discontinued, the rear light remains operational.
Why it matters: This rear light continues to guide vessels entering the River Hayle, a waterway historically important for local shipping.
