About Haut-fond Prince Lighthouse
Also known as: Haut-fond Prince (Prince Shoal)
This cylindrical steel tower, standing 14 meters tall, was built in 1964 to mark the Haut-fond Prince shoal at the mouth of the Saguenay River. Its construction replaced a lightship that had served the area since 1905. The lighthouse's round tower rises from a one-story keeper's house, all supported by a caisson with a vase-like base. Painted with red and white horizontal bands, it emits a white flash every 2.5 seconds. The structure is situated at coordinates -69.614113,48.107708, approximately 4.2 kilometers from Tadoussac.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is essential for guiding vessels around the Haut-fond Prince shoal at the entrance to the Saguenay River, ensuring safe passage into the estuary and its deep waters.
