The focal height of the light is 28 meters, and it emits a white flash every 6 seconds, visible for nearly 15 nautical miles. Accessible only by water, its remote location in Lynn Canal marks the approaches to Haines. The original Fresnel lens was removed in 2001, and restoration efforts by volunteers are ongoing, with repainting scheduled for 2025.

Why it matters: This lighthouse is significant as Alaska's oldest and the sole surviving example of a series of octagonal frame lighthouses built in the early 20th century.
