About Gåsøy Lighthouse
Also known as: Gåsøy (Arnesflua)
Gåsøy Lighthouse, a 7-meter hexagonal tower, stands on a concrete pier off the south coast of Gåsøy island in Norway's northern Oslofjord. Constructed from concrete and fiberglass, this red tower houses a light with an isophase white, red, and green characteristic that cycles every 6 seconds. The original structure, a lantern on a tripod, was replaced by the current facility. The lighthouse has a geographic range of 9.3 nautical miles. While the site is accessible by boat, the tower itself is closed to the public. Steilene is the nearest port, located 2.1 kilometers away.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for safe passage through the intricate channels of the northern Oslofjord, particularly around Gåsøy island.
