About Grytenes Lighthouse
Also known as: #Grytenes
Grytenes Lighthouse is situated on a promontory on the west side of Sandøy, marking the entrance to the Ånnelandssund. The original structure was a 5-meter stone base supporting a lantern and gallery. This lantern was painted white and had a red roof. The light emitted a green color with an isophase characteristic on a 6-second cycle, with a geographic range of 10 nautical miles. The original tower has since been removed, but a light continues to operate at this location.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marked the entrance to the Ånnelandssund, a key navigational channel on Norway's west coast, ensuring safe passage.
