This 21-meter-tall, black, cylindrical concrete tower was constructed in 1991 as part of the Plan de Señales Marítimas 1985-89. Situated on a steep slope atop Monte Ermua, it is the primary light at this position. The structure has a 10-sided cylindrical form, topped with a lantern and housing a 3rd order Fresnel lens. Its focal plane is 165 meters above the sea. The light displays a sequence of one white flash followed by two white flashes every 12 seconds, providing a visibility of 30.9 nautical miles. The location is open to visitors, though access to the tower is restricted.
Why it matters: This light marks a notable cape on the northeast approach to the port of Bilbao.
