About Getaria Lighthouse
Also known as: Getaria (Guetaria, Punta de San Antón)
The Getaria Lighthouse, built in 1863, is a cylindrical masonry tower standing 14 meters tall and situated 93 meters above sea level. It features a white octagonal structure with a lantern and a double gallery, attached to a two-story keeper's house. This lighthouse emits a white flash every 15 seconds, visible for over 24 nautical miles. The installation of a modern lantern increased the light's focal height from its original elevation. Its location is at the end of a peninsula near the town of Getaria in the Basque Country.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns vessels about the peninsula at Guetaria, which extends into the ocean.
