About Ganryu Shima Lighthouse
Ganryu Shima lighthouse stood as a cylindrical, round tower with a lantern and gallery, painted with red and white horizontal bands. It was situated on the tip of a headland, a short distance south of the Hikishima lighthouses, near Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The structure measured 17 meters in height. This light assisted vessels navigating the local waters and approaching the area. It was replaced and subsequently demolished in January 2003.
