About Funakoshi East Breakwater Lighthouse
Also known as: #Funakoshi East Breakwater
This red concrete post lighthouse, standing 9 meters tall, marked the eastern end of the main breakwater at Funakoshi harbor. It featured a lantern above a square, one-story equipment room. The focal height of the light was 10 meters, casting a red flash every 3 seconds, visible for 10.4 nautical miles. The structure was located on the main breakwater on the south side of Yamada in Iwate Prefecture. Unfortunately, the lighthouse sustained severe damage from the 2011 tsunami and was subsequently demolished. A new post light now stands at the location.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was essential for guiding vessels into and out of Funakoshi harbor, clearly defining the end of the main breakwater.
