About Frisholmen Lighthouse
Also known as: #Frisholmen
The original Frisholmen lighthouse was situated on a skerry four kilometers north of Dyrnes. This structure, built on piles, stood 9 meters tall and was painted white with a red roof. It exhibited an occulting red light with a 4-second cycle. The lighthouse was removed in 2020 after being replaced by a modern light. The site is accessible by boat, but the new light structure is not open to the public.
Why it matters: The original lighthouse marked a hazard for vessels navigating the waters north of Dyrnes. Its platform-on-piles design was a practical solution for its exposed location.
