Færder Lighthouse

Fl (3) White 30s🇳🇴Færder, NOOperational

Also known as: Færder (Lille Færder, Tristein)

This cylindrical cast iron tower, standing 43 meters tall, was constructed and first lit in 1857. It is painted dark red with a single white horizontal band and exhibits a white light that flashes once every 30 seconds. The lighthouse is located on Tristein, a small island situated 5 km south of the station it replaced. Serving as the landfall light for Oslo, it guides vessels into the Oslofjorden. The station celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2007. The structure includes the original 1st order Fresnel lens, two keeper's houses, and a semaphore station building.

Why it matters: Færder Lighthouse is the primary landfall light for the Oslofjorden, marking the main route to Norway's capital. The station is historically significant as one of northern Europe's most authentic, retaining all original buildings including the last semaphore station in Norway, and its original Fresnel lens remains operational.
