About Fårö Lighthouse
Built in 1847, Fårö Lighthouse is a 30-meter high cylindrical stone structure. It has an unpainted base, a white-painted tower, and a gray metallic lantern dome. The edifice consists of a round stone tower placed on a round cylindrical stone foundation. A dwelling moved from Östergarnsholm arrived in 1925. The original first-order Fresnel lens was exchanged for a fourth-order Fresnel lens in 1976. The property was sold for private use in 1977. Its light shows an occulting white and red signal every 8 seconds, covering a range of 15.5 nautical miles.
Why it matters: The light marks the eastern point of Fårö, serving as a reference for vessels navigating the Baltic Sea.
