About Fort Point Lighthouse
Built in 1855, the Fort Point Lighthouse is a square pyramidal wood tower standing 9 meters tall. The original keeper's house was wrapped around the tower in 1878, creating a unique hunchbacked appearance. The lighthouse was first lit in 1855 and remained operational until 1989. Following its deactivation, the town of Liverpool assumed ownership and opened the building as a museum in 1997. The lighthouse is located at the end of Main Street in Liverpool.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is significant for its integrated tower and keeper's house design and serves as a tangible link to Liverpool's maritime heritage.
