Flekkerøygapet Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Flekkerøygapet Lighthouse
This square pyramidal wood tower, standing 6 meters high, featured a red lantern roof. It was situated on a promontory of the mainland, opposite the island of Flekkerøy, near Kristiansand. The lighthouse was operational until 2019 and is now believed to have been removed. The site where it once stood remains open to the public, offering views across the channel to Flekkerøy.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was essential for guiding ships through the Flekkerøygapet channel, a critical coastal passage. Its simple, square pyramidal wood tower represented a functional architectural form for coastal navigation.
